It is one thing for people to go green in their homes, but what if every business turned into a green business? With all of the waste in the workforce, an astounding amount of money and energy can be saved with simply a little initiative. Reducing waste and making sure things are clean seem to belong to an old era. In the past, every person lived the truth of the saying “waste not, want not.”
It would prove immensely invaluable if business enterprises went green, yet there are numerous easy ways in which they can do this. The office printer is a conspicuous example of office equipment that should be changed in the office. If the amount of paper consumed could be reduced, numerous trees would not have to be cut down. Paper consumption might be cut by 50% just by using both sides of the paper. Trees perform a task which is valuable to the environment, which is to get rid of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during photosynthesis. Bringing down the amount of paper they use is simply one of the ways in which offices can become eco-friendly.
With the expansion of the internet, commercial enterprises are today linked all over the world, so the need for business travel should be able to be reduced. Holding business conferences in far locations costs a lot in money and energy, much of which might be saved. The coonsiderable amount of business travel that takes place, often using fuel gluttons and carbon spewers such as jets and big automobiles, places great demands on our planet. Video conferencing can be done at a much less cost than jet travel. The internet makes it possible as well to save on travel and office expenses by letting employees carry out a number of jobs at home. This can make a huge difference, although not each and every job can be done this way.
The use of email instead of paper-based communications is an obvious way for a commercial enterprise to become environmentally friendly. Imagine how much paper can be saved, if people would only choose to pay their bills over the onternet. Performing more jobs with electronics instead of paper will be advantageous for the planet. A big way for the office to save a great deal of energy is to stop using stand-alone computers and monitors, and switch to using laptops instead. Around 270 watts of energy are used by the computer and monitor, while a laptop computer doesn’t utilize more than 50 watts. Laptops can be set to enter sleep mode, saving a further amount of energy, after they have been inactive for some time, normally 15 minutes.
Screensavers utilize more energy, so don’t be gulled into thinking otherwise. The largest saving of energy and money a business enterprise could generate, though, would come from switching off each and every desktop PC or laptop computer every time they were not in use. If all commercial enterprises were to do this, sufficient energy would be saved to power the city of Chicago for a whole year.
